Eastlake wins district golf crown

The Eastlake boys golf team won the District 2 championship on Oct. 15, earning 127.5 points, finishing just ahead of Issaquah (126.5).

Wolves’ senior Kevin Penner led the way at Snohomish Golf Course, shooting a 9-under-par 135 for two days.

The senior finished 5 under par on the final nine holes, pulling away from Woodinville’s Jarrett Foote (140) for his second straight District 2 title.

“As the pressure builds, he just gets better,” said Eastlake coach Erik Hanson.

Eastlake had three others finish in the top 16, including fifth-place finisher Ethan Nash (148). Evan Alston (156) took 12th and Chris Kobak (159) finished 14th. Hanson said it hasn’t been determined how many District 2 golfers will get to go to state May 27-28 in Kennewick, but it will likely be 12 or 13 with an alternate.

This is the second time the Wolves have won district title, taking first in 2006.

“They were super excited,” Hanson said, noting that every single golfer on this year’s varsity team scored in at least one match.

Issaquah had two golfers finish in the top 16, including sixth-place finisher Kevin Moon (150). Derek Wilson finished ninth with a 153. Skyline finished fifth as a team with 84.5 points. Nick Tran (157) finished 13th and Jordan Windsor (159) took 16th.
