Voters from around the state compiled a list of all-state teams for all classifications in baseball, softball and soccer. The list, organized by Rene Ferran of the Tri-City Herald, featured 12 athletes from Issaquah, Skyline, Eastlake and Eastside Catholic high schools.
First-team all-league selections, as well as league MVPs, were eligible for the ballot, with some exceptions. Ballots were sent out to media throughout the state. In order to receive an honorable mention, a player had to receive at least two votes. Three area athletes received first-team selections, including Eastside Catholic pitcher Matt Boyd and infielder Mike Englund. Issaquah’s Quinn Grisham was named to the 4A first team as a midfielder.
Here are the other winners from the four area schools.
Skyline – Adrian Sampson, second-team pitcher; Ryan Somers, second-team infielder; Brian Schwartz, honorable mention goalkeeper. Issaquah – Mikinzie Voves, honorable mention pitcher; Molly Nelson, honorable mention catcher. Eastlake – Gordon Savage, honorable mention defender; Nick Andrews, honorable mention catcher. Eastside Catholic – Mike Bush, second-team infielder; Quinn Sinser, second-team midfielder.
Liberty High School’s Eric Petersen was named the 3A baseball Player of the Year.
