Amateur Radio Operators from the Issaquah Amateur Radio Club will be showing off their emergency capabilities on the weekend of June 25-26. They will be setting up field radio communication stations, getting on the air, and contacting hundreds of other operators in the U.S. and Canada as part of participation in the American Radio Relay League’s annual Field Day.

“Field Day is a way for hams to fine-tune emergency communication skills,” according to John MacDuff, Newsletter Editor for the Issaquah Amateur Radio Club.

“We use battery power, and set up temporary antennas in the field. The idea is to put together a self-sufficient, working radio station quickly and begin making contacts as quickly as possible.”

Issaquah ARC’s Field Day operation will be at the Sunny Hills Elementary School playground. Set up begins about 9 a.m. on June 25 with the goal of getting on the air at 11 a.m.. Operations will continue until 11 a.m. Sunday.

The public is invited to come by anytime and see the operation and, if conditions permit, allow others to get on the air to experience ham radio for themselves.
