The Issaquah Alps Trails Club is asking for help picking up trash on a 40-acre parcel that could become the main trailhead for Cougar Mountain Nov. 19.

King County Parks recently acquired the Newport Way land, but it’s filled with homeless camps and trash.

While trash pickup isn’t the most glamorous thing to volunteer for, it’s a necessary step for integrating the parcel into the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park, said David Kappler, IATC president.

The group hopes eventually the land will get a main trailhead with parking, access trails and help with wetland and forest management.

The group plans to meet at the Newport Way Park & Ride Lot at 9 a.m. for a short commute to the site. Volunteers can come late and stay as long as they’d like. For more information email trailwork@issaquahalps.org.
