Commissioner Hamilton is the proverbial wolf in sheep’s clothing. (“No transit plan a flaw in Town Center…” Sammamish Reporter, Nov. 20.)
Throughout the town center planning process, as a person appointed to oversee town center planning, Commissioner Hamilton has done all he could to sabotage town center development.
Since 2002, I have presented Hamilton, Town Center committees, planning commissioners and city council members with extensive materials about Transit Oriented Development and the level of density necessary to support public transportation. Hamilton ignored everything and pushed low density development in the Town Center.
If the Town Center plan is flawed he is the source of the error. It is the height of hypocrisy for him put the blame on someone else. Citizens need to know that the plan Hamilton calls flawed has his finger prints all over it.
Hamilton’s sudden concern for TOD is simply an attempt to prevent completion of a realistic plan and to extend indefinitely a planning process that has cost the city $2 million and deprived town center land owners of their property rights for 10 years.
The SE Quadrant project remains open to a city partnership aimed at including public transportation. Our planning materials demonstrate that TOD improves traffic.
We have been advocating TOD for years, but our voices have fallen on deaf ears. Hopefully, the new city council will be open minded and ready to make something happen in the Town Center.
Enough is enough, Hamilton. Thank goodness your term as a planning commissioner ends in December.
