Huckabay will keep Sammamish ‘family friendly’

Kathy Huckabay is a fiscally conservative planner who started her City Council service encouraging the council to include future expenses, such as maintenance costs for parks, into the city's long-term financial budgets. As a result, finances are exceptionally strong – we are one of the very few cities with no long-term debt and a AAA bond rating. This is one of Kathy’s proudest accomplishments.

I know that Kathy will continue to keep on eye on the city’s finances. It’s critical as we look forward to building a community center, weighing the costs and benefits of a Sammamish Fire Department and managing the growth that continues to come our way.

Kathy also has worked hard on projects that made Sammamish a nationally recognized community – great parks, pristine lakes, a growing trail system, and most importantly encouraging dedicated volunteers who serve the city in myriad ways. She is herself a frequent volunteer in the city.

Looking forward, Kathy sees the need to expand cultural and recreation opportunities, transit options and increased services and amenities – restaurants, retail shops and medical office space. There’s also a need to provide diverse housing options – cottage and sustainable housing, smaller homes and condos that will allow young people and seniors to stay in their community.

Kathy has the time and energy this job requires and will work to make sure that our city continues to be a “family friendly community.”
