In our work as a Redmond City Council member and as a board member of the Lake Washington PTSA Council, we’ve personally witnessed the positive effect our high-performing public schools have in our Lake Washington community.
Compared to the drought in California, civil wars in Syria and Russia’s invasion of the Crimean Peninsula, the issue of annexing the Klahanie Proposed Annexation Area (PAA) to Issaquah or its remaining in unincorporated King County doesn’t seem quite so earth shattering.
The Catholic Church uses the Bible as its foundation for truth and faith in God.
I was bemused by the cartoon in the March 21 Reporter “showing” why the Legislature cannot pass a transportation package. One wonders exactly which tax the cartoon’s harvester-operator believes will increase if the westside gets needed transportation infrastructure.
This past fall, both Sammamish and Issaquah were meeting in council and talking to the community regarding their positions on annexation of the whole of the Klahanie PAA. The Issaquah City Council made a promise to release the PAA to Sammamish if the Annexation vote in February were “no.” Well, the residents of the PAA have voted, and the vote was “no.” The democratic process is complete.
I wish to express my deepest apology to the citizens of Issaquah for the recent reprehensible behavior of the Sammamish City Council that would financially affect the annexation of Klahanie to Issaquah.
If Senator Mullet continues to ignore our voice, we’ll need to resort to changing those things we can vote on including who the next state senator will be.
I am both disappointed and mystified (but not surprised) that the Reporter has not seen fit to question the actions or at least the ethics of both the city of Sammamish and the King County Police Officers Guild in the Klahanie Annexation campaign.
I grew up with lots of family members who were teachers, so I’m usually supportive of school issues, but this year the Lake Washington School District is asking local families for an excessive tax increase. Here we are five years into a recession and they propose a 30 percent increase in the capitol improvements levy (Proposition 2).
I wanted to extend my support and encourage others to vote “yes” for the three Issaquah School District levies. As a parent of two children in the district, and as someone who volunteers and substitutes in the Issaquah School District, I want to make sure everyone knows how important it is to vote “yes” for this funding.
I am a mother with two children in Lake Washington School District. I want quality instruction for my children and future students in modern buildings that can handle tomorrow’s technical and educational needs.
On page 6 of the Jan. 17 Reporter, Don Gerend sates: “I dare you to find a pothole in Sammamish.”
Well, there is one.
In a recent letter, I noted that a person on Beaver Lake Road removed “Vote YES” annexation signs. It’s gotten worse.
Lake Washington School District has a consistent record of accountability, using local dollars exactly as portrayed and voted upon, within budget, for sustaining high performing public schools.
In 2012, our elected city councilmembers enacted legislation to ban plastic bags in Issaquah. Local businesses and citizens quickly adapted and, overall, it was a success.
Vote ‘no’ on Proposition No.1, a request to overturn the bag ban.
I hope the Klahanie residents are not fooled or distracted by the false information floating around during this annexation vote. Issaquah has an amazingly low property tax level because of all the successful retail stores like Costco and Target in the city limits. These retail establishments actually pay more towards city services through sales tax dollars than residents pay through property tax.
On behalf of the Issaquah School Board, I want to extend our great appreciation for the community’s ongoing support for our schools. Our goal is to prepare students for a global, dynamic world.
As Plateau residents, we have an interesting vote due Feb. 11. We must vote “yes” to annex our 18 jurisdictions in the Klahanie PAA to the city of Issaquah.
Klahanie residents will make an important decision whether or not to annex to Issaquah. Vote “no” to Issaquah and consider Sammamish as your new city.
