Here’s a big Thank You to the people of our community from the Sammamish Kiwanis Club for supporting our Bell Ringing for Baby Corner. You came through again this year with $928 and a big carload of baby supplies for the Eastside Baby Corner on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 15 and 16.
I am a senior at Tiger Mountain Community High School, and I think you misrepresented my school. The way it was worded and put together made it sound like my school was only for drug users, and it made my school sound unsafe because of that.
Lake Washington School District was named by the College Board to its third annual AP District Honor Roll for simultaneously increasing access to Advanced Placement coursework while maintaining or increasing the percentage of students earning scores of 3 or higher on AP exams.
I disagree with reporter Kevin Endejan’s opinion about the legalization of marijuana, but I do understand his position. I’m not too excited about potential auto accidents with stoned drivers, either.
Roger Goodman, our state Representative of the 45th Legislative District recently received a national award from MADD for “Legislator of the Year” for his legislation that requires ignition interlock devices be installed on cars of convicted drunk drivers. Mothers Against Drunk Drivers noted that studies have shown these devices reduce highway deaths from drunk driving by 20 percent and called Washington’s law a model for the other 49 states.
State Rep. Roger Goodman’s strong record on drunk driving has been outrageously distorted by his opponent through false robocalls and T.V. ads. On the contrary, Goodman has worked to keep us safe on the road by passing drunk driving legislation that is a model for the nation.
We, the undersigned members and friends of East Shore Unitarian Church, support the approval of Referendum 74 and encourage others to vote to approve it as well.
I have worked with Mark Mullet since he was elected to the Issaquah City Council in 2009. It really bothers me to see the stuff coming from independent groups saying that Mark Mullet supports raising taxes.
Are you In for Kids? The Issaquah Schools Foundation is working on its All in for Kids annual campaign. This campaign aims to raise money to bridge the gap between inadequate state funding and the top-rate education we expect and want for all kids in the district. “All in“ is a call to each of us to partner with the foundation to ensure that students in Issaquah are supported, enriched and equipped for the 21st century.
As your Secretary of State for the past 12 years, I fully understand the qualities needed to serve successfully in that position. I enthusiastically support Kim Wyman for Secretary of State.
A Sammamish city non-binding YMCA facility question is on the crowded Nov. 6 ballot. While tight races for top elected offices both nationally and statewide, along with a wide array of critically important initiatives dominate the headlines, the proposed YMCA project might well be the ballot measure that actually impacts current and future Sammamish residents most directly– and for years to come.
Congress missed an historic opportunity to protect our outdoor and recreation heritage recently. Despite the outstanding leadership of our representative, Dave Reichert, and broad support across the Congress, a provision to fund the Land and Water Conservation Fund was stripped during final negotiations on the federal transportation bill.
A recent letter writer commented about Cost of Living Adjustments (COLA) being implemented for the City of Sammamish. The writer erroneously claims many details that just are not facts.
We would like to thank all our summer lunch program supporters. Contributions to help feed children during the summer months have been streaming in from all over the place.
I have the highest regard for Sen. Cheryl Pflug. I understand and accept her need to move on to a new opportunity and pass the torch of state senator to someone else.
The Sammamish Ace Hardware, a highly prized local service, will close next year. Ace’s lease will not be extended. Efforts to relocate to the Sammamish Town Center failed.
How many more times does Issaquah have to lose to Skyline before there is a major coaching change?
How disappointing to learn that Sammamish “adopts new COLA plan.” (Reporter, July 20, page 3). COLAs are antiquated practices that provide automatic increases to pay simply for being on the job for another year. They are not related to performance or to the value of the work being done (in fact they provide highly compensated employees with increases that may put their actual pay well beyond what is reasonable in the marketplace.).
During the summer, a few people take their lunch to the boat launch at Lake Sammamish State Park. They are taking a little break from their office to enjoy the nice grass and a view of the lake.
A bill has been passed by the U.S. House allowing the Border Patrol to build roads, vehicle barricades, airstrips and dumps on federal lands up to 100 miles from U.S. borders — including places like the Colville National Forest and Mt. Baker Snoqualmie National Park where Washington residents have long enjoyed hunting, fishing and hiking.
