Retaining wall needs pressure washing

As a resident of Issaquah and living on Black Nugget Road, I have written to the Honorable Mayor Ava Frisinger regarding a retaining wall on Black Nugget Road, behind the Fred Meyer shopping mall.

This retaining wall was built by the company that built the shopping mall. It is made out of pressure-treated railroad ties. It is very often damp because of water run-off from the hill behind the wall. As a result, there is much mildew and dirt on this wall, making it very unattractive.

The retaining wall is now owned by the city of Issaquah.

I am a resident of University House Issaquah, and I have encouraged other residents of this senior residence to also send letters to Mayor Frisinger. She has responded to all these seniors with a fine letter, stating that she will consider some improvement in the city’s 2010 budget. This is a long way off. Some of the seniors who wrote letter have expressed to me that nothing will be done. They have little trust in politicians.

The 2009 city budget is now being worked on by the mayor and the City Council. Why can’t the cleaning and power washing of the retaining wall be considered for the 2009 city budget? The city owns power washers and other equipment to do the job.

I think that the improvement of this wall can be done now.
