As a 30 year resident living off of Sahalee Way, frequent dog walker, commuter, and mom I have to respectfully and whole heartedly disagree with Tom Hornish’s assessment of the Sahalee Way Project and Mayor Vance’s “unguided spending spree”.
Over the years the stretch of road in question has become dangerous for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Sahalee Way is no longer a country road; it now carries thousands of cars per day at 45 miles per hour. Anyone who uses the Sahalee Way and NE 28th Place intersection will tell you it’s dangerous and frustrating, especially during commuting times. My neighbors and I have nearly been hit on many occasions. In fact citizens from our neighborhood, The Crest, have lodged many complaints about the intersection to the city. Because Major Vance is the sort of counsel [sic] member who is very approachable and cares, I have complained to him personally about the intersection. He’d say, “we’re working on it”. A contingent of the homeowners from the Crest attended the open house about the Sahalee Way project, and we were very happy with the proposed traffic light, side walk, turn pockets, and median. Thank you Tom Vance and City Counsel [sic] for finally taking action!
