SR 900 lights need another look

Yes, perhaps my previous letter had not fully explored the situation for synchronizing the lights on SR 900. Nevertheless, considerable improvement in traffic control through the Issaquah portion of SR 900 is sorely needed. And, after numerous phone conversations with WSDOT and the city of Issaquah, I continue to be of the opinion the lights could be much better programmed and synchronized.

While the basic control of the lights remains with WSDOT, there is a level of cooperation with the city, particularly with regard the the cross streets – Gilman, Maple and Newport Way. The city does retain a measure of control over the cross street lights.

Based on my conversations with WSDOT, the representative did agree that there had been no review of that part of the corridor for some time and that another review might be considered. They also indicated that there had been no requests from the city for any review or assistance to improve the situation within the last two years, despite a substantial increase in traffic.

The city representative did agree to review the light situation at both Maple and Newport which potentially might improve the traffic flow at those locations.
