‘Twas a Very Merry Sammamish that took place Friday, Dec. 4 at the Sammamish Commons Plaza. Both the Commons and City Hall were decked with a variety of holiday themes. Appreciation for the wonderful event goes out to the organizers, city staff, volunteers, sponsors, vendors and especially to those attending. Included in the multitude were first responders, members of the military, some city commissioners, a number of the current City Council including a couple of newly elected to the council. In addition, the police, press and politicians were observed circulating through the gathering. However, the heart of the crowd was truly the people of the community. Literally the halls were decked with a wide variety of holiday themes. This was definitely an event designed for families, friends and neighbors of the area.

The occasion was exceptionally joyful with plenty of grins, giggles and relaxed laughter, supported by a snow machine that added luster to the proceeding. Other highlights designed for family fun included a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, and treats. By evening’s end, miniature candy canes danced in almost everyone’s hands. Live entertainment throughout the night consisted of carolers, choirs and storytellers. The Grinch was not seen but had he been there it is almost certain that his heart would have grown at least three sizes.

For some this was the first time at Very Merry Sammamish. However, for many, the event was becoming an annual family holiday tradition. A special highlight of the proceedings was after a collective countdown, the mayor, laying his finger alongside a light switch, which resulted in the illumination of the spectacular holiday tree.

For those folks who wondered, ‘Yes, there is a Very Merry Sammamish!’
