Vote yes
This month, the Issaquah School District is asking voters to renew support for three levies. Passage of these levies is critical to the future success of our students and our community. Without the maintenance and operations levy, which provides approximately 20 percent of the district’s income, education in Issaquah would be devastated.
There are two other levies and each is also critically important to maintaining high levels of district success.
The transportation levy will allow the district to purchase 41 new buses. Washington requires local taxpayers to pay for transportation upgrades.
New buses are essential for the safety of our children, and actually provide the district with long-range cost savings by reducing energy expenditures and bus maintenance costs.
The technology and capital repairs levy will allow the district to purchase an additional $33 million in classroom technology and nearly $6 million in needed capital repairs over the next four years. Unfortunately, the state does not pay for technology upgrades in local schools, even though technology is imbedded in economic growth and job competency. Our students deserve to be fully prepared for future employment in a highly competitive world.
Additional capital repair funds will help the district maintain voters’ already substantial investment in school facilities.
When you get your ballot in the mail this month, please vote for all three levies – the M&O, transportation and technology/capital repairs levies. You will be supporting a strong school system and a strong community with your votes.
