Art classes set for Sammamish seniors

A four-class art series for Sammamish seniors, featuring creative writing and drawing, will be held from May 8-29. The Spring Workshop Art Series (two sessions each) for seniors 55+ is funded by the Sammamish Arts Commission and run by artEAST.

 

A four-class art series for Sammamish seniors, featuring creative writing and drawing, will be held from May 8-29. The Spring Workshop Art Series (two sessions each) for seniors 55+ is funded by the Sammamish Arts Commission and run by artEAST.

“Garden Friends in Words and Print” will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 8 and 15 and taught by author Jacquelyn Fedyk and illustrator Leslie Nan Moon.

Fedyk will lead the class in creative writing exercises. Moon will teach block printing techniques to create an image inspired by the exercise. Participants will leave the workshop with their own original written work and a self-made accompanying block print.

“Drawing your Way” Thursday will be offered from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday May 22 and 29. Instructor Gail Baker will teach seniors to draw with their own sight and sensation. Students will explore different methods of mark making with a variety of tools.

The workshop series are free to Sammamish residents 55-plus. To register, email your name and phone number to Allison Gubata at agubata@sammamish.us. Registration is for all four classes. Classes will take place at the EX3 Boys and Girls Club Recreation and Teen Center, 825 228th Ave. N.E., Sammamish.
