artEAST art center and Up Front Gallery is offering a number of workshops in the near future.

Figure drawing begins Monday, Jan. 7, from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and noon to 2 p.m.

These open model sessions, coordinated by Ellen Borison and Lee Berry, offer participants the opportunity to practice drawing from the nude model without instruction. The morning short pose session will typically be spent on one-, two-, five- and 15-minute poses. The afternoon long pose session is devoted to a single pose. People may register for five, 10 or 20 sessions during the term.

Twyla Tharp’s The Creative Habit Study Group starts Jan. 10 for seven sessions from 6:30-9 p.m.

The premise of Tharp’s book, “The Creative Habit,” is that habit, hard work, and self-knowledge play the central role in a life devoted to creative enterprise. The study group, led by Ellen Borison, will look into Tharp’s book, personalizing the journey. Participants will be encouraged to adapt Tharp’s creativity-harnessing exercises to fit their own needs.

Selling at art festivals will be held Saturday, Jan. 12. The workshop will demystify the process and build confidence so a person can take the leap. The instructor, Steph Mader, is a full-time artist, selling regularly at art festivals in the Northwest.

Painting in the Spirit of Helen Frankenthaler is on Sunday, Jan 13. In honor of the Women’s show at the Seattle Art Museum, Gail Baker will present a short study of Helen Frankenthaler’s abstract expressionist and color field work. The workshop will experiment with mixing her colors, examining her compositions, and discussing her inspirations.

Workshops without a minimum number of registered students one week prior can be canceled. Most workshops will be held at the artEAST Art Center, 95 Front St. N. in Issaquah. To register or for more information call 425-392-3191.
