Issaquah the center of the cat world for a weekend

All cat-eyes were on Issaquah last weekend, as the Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) came to town.

The Issaquah Community Center hosted the annual Issaquah leg of a regular series of all-breed cat shows in the northwest and across the country.

For cat lovers, it was a chance to get an up-close look at some rare and distinguished breeds in top feline condition.

And for the cat breeders and showers of the area, it was their chance to compete in front of some of the best cat judges in the country.

Dozens of cat fanciers’ clubs were represented at the Issaquah event, such as the All Chiefs No Indians Cat Club, Exotic Fanciers of the Northwest, the Puget Sound Cat Club, and the Responsible Cat Fanciers of the Northwest.

Marilyn Froystad was one of the contestants flying the flag for Issaquah cats.

Froystad, and her agent Gayle Stockwell, were hoping that Froystad’s one and half year old Abyssinian “Amelia” could repeat her successes at recent shows, such as the one in Chehalis in January, and be named Grand Champion.

Froystad has been showing cats since 1973, including other breeds such as the Siamese and the Oriental.

As well as the feline indulgence, proceeds from the show went to the Issaquah Food Bank.

The next Washington cat show in will be hosted by the Spokane Cat Club on May 23 and 24.
