Sammamish residents experienced a very special musical experience Tuesday night when the Krishnaswami-Salman duo visited Sammamish Presbyterian Church for their fifth time, performing a blend of French and German musical pieces.
The concert, presented by the Sammamish Arts Commission and co-sponsored by the city and 4Culture, featured Rajan Krishnaswami on cello and Mark Salman on piano.
The Simple Measures concert first featured French music, including a playful sonata by Francis Poulenc which was reminiscent of French cabaret music combined with American jazz influences. The second half consisted of German composer Richard Strauss’ early work, portraying youthful exuberance and enthusiasm in the style of the late 19th century Romantic period. The duo interacted with the crowd, providing insights and laughs throughout the night.
Krishnaswami and Salman have been making music together for more than 20 years and have played together both nationally and internationally. They are originally from Connecticut and attended Juilliard.
Daphne Robinson, Sammamish Arts Commissioner, said they had twice as many people in attendance compared to last year’s event.
