Master Chorus Eastside will present a Victorian Christmas, complete with carols and audience sing-alongs, in a pair of performances Dec. 4 and 12.
“A surprising number of holiday customs familiar to Americans began during Queen Victoria’s reign in 19th century England and spread to our shores,” artistic director Linda Gingrich, said. “We will highlight some of those customs, such as the birth of the Christmas card industry, the importance of family gatherings, and the popularization of the Christmas tree through songs and commentary.”
Songs featured will include “The 12 Days of Christmas,” “Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming,” “Deck the Halls,” “O Christmas Tree,” “The Holly and the Ivy,” and more, including a choral arrangement of the overture to “The Nutcracker Suite.”
Master Chorus Eastside performs mainly on the Eastside, but has appeared in Benaroya Hall, throughout western Washington, and in numerous performances on the Argosy Christmas ship.
Performances times are 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 and 3 p.m. Dec. 12 at Eastlake Performing Arts Center, Eastlake High School, 400 228th Ave. NE, Sammamish.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $15 for youth and seniors. Family tickets and group tickets are available.
