Sammamish residents are invited to participate as readers for the ACT Theatre’s “Assisted Living” on May 2 at the Sammamish Library.
The comedy, written by Katie Forgette, focuses on Joe Taylor, a retired actor who moves into a prison-turned-elder-care facility shortly after the demise of Medicare and discovers a community of lovable, irascible inmates hell-bent on bucking the dehumanizing system in which they have landed.
Here are the requirements for the roles:
*Kevin (25 to 35), aspirations exceed opportunities and perhaps intellect.
*Beatrice “Judy” Hart (65+), ill, but not so that you would necessarily notice.
*Wally Carmichael (65+), cranky mush-pot.
*Nurse Claudia (30-45), re-energized in her role as a nurse who speaks quickly and with authority.
*Mitzi Kramer (65+), former nurse, now resident; declining health but not kindness. Her speech is fluid and bright. At certain moments, may appear pixilated.
*Joe Taylor (65+), loyal, tenacious.
