On Saturday, May 16, inspired by the theme, “We Can Do It!” borrowed from the World War II volunteer campaign, 45 women from Sammamish Presbyterian Church ventured out in teams to support five local organizations.
One group built layette sets for babies at Eastside Baby Corner.
Eastside Baby Corner makes a positive difference in the lives of children and families in need by collecting and purchasing children’s items and distributing them, free of charge, through local service care providers.
Another cleaned houses for senior citizens through the Faith in Action organization.
Faith in Action brings volunteers of different faiths together to care for their homebound neighbors who may be isolated and living with chronic health conditions or disabilities.
A third group sorted food items at the Issaquah Food Bank.
The Issaquah Food Bank is a non-profit agency that serves local qualifying income residents, pledging to give them a sense of dignity and feeling of self-worth that is often absent from those whose economic circumstances force them to ask for assistance.
Yet another group weeded and painted fences to help prepare for the spring horse show at Little Bit Therapeutic Riding Center.
The riding center provides therapeutic horseback riding to children and adults with disabilities who live in the Puget Sound area, in an environment that emphasizes abilities rather than disabilities.
The fifth group organized the Smile Power office in North Bend.
Smile Power is a group of volunteer dentists and hygienists who train local people to take an active role in preventative care education of the communities they live within.
In one morning of mission, these women donated more than 180 hours of community service.
Sammamish Presbyterian Church offers many opportunities for the community to be involved in outreach that makes a real difference in peoples’ lives here in King County and around the world.
The church offers volunteer opportunities through Habitat for Humanity, Teen Feed (feeding homeless teens in Seattle), Faith in Action, International Justice Mission, World Vision and others.
