Tap into the monster in you at costume swap event

Everyone loves Halloween. As well as all the spooky fun of haunted houses and trick-or-treating, it's always a good time to let out the inner Tiger, Wizard, Zombie or Astronaut in you.

Everyone loves Halloween. As well as all the spooky fun of haunted houses and trick-or-treating, it’s always a good time to let out the inner Tiger, Wizard, Zombie or Astronaut in you.

Unfortunately, many Halloween costumes get worn on that one day in October and then stored away in the closet never to see the light of day again.

Inspired by the simple idea that reusing Halloween costumes would help families save money each Halloween as well as reduce the number of costumes finding their way into landfill, the team behind family-friendly web site Snoqualmie Valley Macaroni Kid has launched National Costume Swap Day in Issaquah.

Snoqualmie Valley Macaroni Kid is partnering with local businesses Small Threads and Adventure Kids Playcare to host a costume swap, through a grassroots, nonprofit called Green Halloween.

Drop off your swap-able costumes at Small Threads, at 1480 NW Gilman Blvd, during business hours Oct. 2 to 8. In exchange for your costume you will be given a Swap Ticket to be brought back for the event Oct. 9 from 8 to 10 a.m.

Swapping the costumes of half the children who celebrate Halloween would reduce annual landfill waste by 6,250 tons, equivalent to the weight of 2,500 midsize cars.
