As of the May 19 campaign filing deadline, there are seven candidates running for Issaquah City Council, three for mayor of Issaquah and two for the Issaquah School Board.
Only the mayoral race will need the August primary to narrow the candidate pool from three to two ahead of the November general election.
Deputy Council President Mary Lou Pauly, Councilmember Paul Winterstein and Claude Blumenzweig have all filed to run for mayor of Issaquah. Current Mayor Fred Butler announced earlier this year he would not seek re-election.
Chris Reh and Bryan Weinstein will run against one another for Council Position 1. The position is currently held by Deputy Council President Pauly, who is vacating the position to run for mayor.
Councilmember Mariah Bettise is running to finish the last two years of the Council Position 2 term; the council appointed her to the position last year after incumbent Jennifer Sutton vacated her position. Richard Swanson will challenge Bettise.
There is one candidate and two incumbents running unopposed for three council seats.
Justin Walsh is running for Council Position 3, which is being vacated by Councilmember Eileen Barber. Council President Stacy Goodman is running for re-election for Council Position 5. Councilmember Tola Marts will run for re-election for Council Position 7.
There are also two incumbents on the School Board who are running unopposed, including District 2 Director Marnie Maraldo and current School Board President Lisa Callan, who represents District 4.
King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert, who represents District 3, is running for re-election and is being challenged by John Murphy. Issaquah and Sammamish are included in District 3.
