AMD employees will donate their time Wednesday to build homes for low-income families with Habitat for Humanity of East King County (EKC). In addition to volunteering their time, AMD also awarded Habitat EKC with a $500 Team Development Grant.
At least 10 AMD volunteers will join Habitat at their Issaquah Highlands site to help do exterior framing on three duplexes, where Habitat EKC is building 10 affordable homes. One of the homeowners, Lola Reyes, a single mother of two, moved into her new home this past weekend.
“After I had everything moved in to my home, I looked around and remembered all of the hands that helped build my house. I remember all of the tours we took inside of our homes, and how many people passed through, leaving a little bit of love and hope behind,” she said.
Reyes put in 500 hours of sweat equity before moving into her home, working alongside volunteers over the past few months.
AMD has a strong background in community involvement, encouraging employees to volunteer their time and talent to improve their communities around the world. Their office in Bellevue has volunteered at Issaquah Highlands in the past and hopes to continue their partnership with Habitat EKC.
Almost 90 percent of Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor.
