Lee Krasner and Jackson Pollock, Pablo Picasso and Dora Maar – the art world loves a good partnership. It is about a mingling of thoughts, spreading the cultural net, reaching out into new places and ideas. A new partnership in art has just been born in Issaquah, with the opening of artEast’s show at Providence Marianwood nursing facility on Wednesday night.
Featuring 40 works from more than a dozen local photographers, this may be artEast’s first exhibition away from its home on Front Street, but it won’t be the last, according to Providence Marianwood Foundation Board Member and artEast collaborator Liz Ashley.
“The idea is to make this on ongoing partnership,” Ashley said. “Providence were doing a bit of renovating, and the walls were painted nice and fresh, so it was the perfect opportunity to come in and put some local art up on the walls.”
Providence Marianwood Foundation Director Steve Gallion said as well as hosting regular artEast exhibitions, the facility would stage exhibitions of other art groups too.
“In fact, our next show, opening June 16, will be of works by our residents,” he said. “Every two months there will be a new exhibition, which will be great for the residents and visitors.”
Before there was art on the walls, what was there? “Terrible wallpaper,” Gallion remembers.
The artEast photo exhibition, which features artEAST members, guest photographers and students from Sunny Hills Elementary, will be on display from now until the middle of June.
