There are now more places to park a bike in historic downtown Issaquah. In all, 15 artist-design bike racks are being installed throughout Olde Town.

The designs for the racks include concentric ripples in the water of a rocky creek, the spiraling fiddlehead of a fern and the concentric spirals of the human fingerprint.

“In creating art for Issaquah’s bike rack project, I wanted to support the city’s goal of sustainability by promoting and celebrating Issaquah residents’ connection to their natural world,” bike rack artist Kathleen Frugé-Brown said on the city’s website. “To accomplish this, I sought images that would provide both a strong sense of place, and an inclusive reminder of viewers’ shared values and home.”

The installation is a reflection of our community’s walk ‘n’ roll culture — as well as one of the first priority elements in the Bicycle & Pedestrian Action Plan.
