Incumbent Sammamish council member Jack Barry announced this week that he will seek re-election in November.

Barry, a member of the city’s foundation council, was Mayor of Sammamish in 2000.

The decision on whether to seek a fourth term as councillor came late for Barry, who said this week that he felt it was important that residents be offered a choice in the election for his position, number 7.

In a letter to The Reporter, Barry said that he was “committed to holding down taxes and staying closely focused on evidence of sound fiscal management.” Barry wrote that he “worked for increases in essential police and fire service, saving $1.2 million for the city through the restructuring of service delivery.”

The 10-year councillor was a founder of the SAMMI Awards, a founding member of the Rotary Club of Sammamish, and currently serves on the Board of Directors for Eastside Fire and Rescue.

Barry lists his priorities as fiscally conservative management, improved infrastructure, family-friendly and kid-safe communities, clean air and water, and accessible city government.
