Officials broke ground at the site for the new Issaquah Middle School June 26 at 10 a.m.

The new building, set behind the existing Issaquah Middle School at 400 First Ave. S.E., is expected to open to students for the 2016-17 school year, according to the Issaquah School District.

The existing middle school will be renovated, with some sections torn down, and will become the home to Clark Elementary in fall 2017. The current Clark building will be demolished.

The new middle school is budgeted for $62.5 million and the Clark renovation is estimated at $19.5 million, according to the district.

Funds come from the $219 million construction bond voters approved in 2012.
