Hoping for a white Christmas? The predictions are coming in, and it looks like Issaquah, Sammamish and the rest of the Puget Sound won’t be third-time lucky.

The National Weather Service seven-day forecasting models are predicting a cooling trend of daytime highs in the 40s heading into the weekend. But more wet weather and moderate temperatures are on the way for Christmas week, keeping above freezing at night and generally wet during the daytime hours.

After a dusting in 2007 and nearly half-a-foot of snow for Christmas 2008, those wishing for fulfillment of Bing Crosby’s wintertime dreams will likely need to head into the mountains for a dose of the white stuff.

Officially, the National Climate Data Center says the Seattle area has a 7% or 8% chance of a White Christmas in any given year, defined as 1 inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day. The estimate is based on temperature data between 1961 and 1990.
