This weekend crews will continue construction to the on and off ramps of I-405 in Bellevue surround the I-90 interchange. The ongoing projects will include closures, as part of the work to create new lanes, pavement and striping.
Today crews opened the old southbound I-405 bridge over I-90 for northbound carpool traffic, according to the Washington Department of Transportation. This allows for increased traffic in the carpool lanes.
Between Aug. 15 and 17 crews will be working to repave a section of northbound I-405, meaning all but one northbound lane will be closed between 112th Ave. SE and NE Sixth Street from 5 a.m. Saturday to 5 a.m. Aug. 17. Work crews will also close several ramps in the area as part of various projects. On Saturday the carpool off-ramp to NE Sixth Street from northbound I-405 will be close and on Saturday the on-ramp from Coal Creek Parkway to northbound I-405 will be closed, as well as the off-ramps to eastbound and westbound I-90 from northbound I-405 from 5 a.m. Sunday through 5 a.m. on Monday. The off-ramp to SE Eighth Street from northbound I-405 will also be closed during that time frame.
DOT said drivers planning to take northbound I-405 to I-90 on Sunday should expect a 15 minute or greater delay. In order to gain access to I-90 drivers will exit northbound I-405 at NE Sixth Street and return to southbound I-405. Detour maps can be found on the DOT Web site at www.wsdot.wa.gov/Projects/I405/112thAvetoSE8th/Closures.htm. All lanes and ramps will be reopened by 5 a.m. on Monday morning.
Construction crews will also complete the installation of the two new overhead freeway signs on I-405 between I-90 and SE Eighth Street in Bellevue to direct drivers to Bellevue exits. During the weekend, if allowed by the weather, DOT said crews will repave I-405 from 112th Ave. SE to SE Eighth Street with new test sections of quieter asphalt. On Monday the new northbound lane from I-90 to SE Eighth Street will be open.
All work is weather-dependent, DOT said, and if it rains or temperatures are cooler-than-average the work will be postponed until the weekend of Aug. 22.
