Costco Wholesale expands to former Microsoft space in Sammamish Park Place

The membership-based warehouse sales company -- which has headquartered in the city since 1995 -- leased 176,656 square feet of office space in the Sammamish Park Place commercial park, according to a release from property owner Vulcan Real Estate.

Costco Wholesale Inc. is expanding further into Issaquah. The membership-based warehouse sales company — which has headquartered in the city since 1995 — leased 176,656 square feet of office space in the Sammamish Park Place commercial park, according to a release from property owner Vulcan Real Estate.

The space in the three-building complex was previously occupied by the Microsoft Corporation, which did not renew its lease this summer. Microsoft continues to occupy the other two buildings in the complex.

“…this lease was a great partnership for both parties,” said Ada M. Healey, Vulcan Inc.’s VP of real estate. “We are very pleased to add another Washington-based Fortune 500 company to Sammamish Park Place.”

Costco has been working with Issaquah’s municipal government this year to expand its headquarters office space in the city by 1.5 million square feet. A bill regarding the matter will be discussed in the Council Infrastructure Committee meeting Sept. 3 to be considered by the Issaquah City Council.

The Reporter called the office of the Chief Financial Officer for Costco and Costco’s Real Estate department for comment, with no answer on what the new office space would be used for. However, The Seattle Times reported that CFO Robert Galanti said the Sammamish Park Place offices would be used to house information technology staff and other operations.

Vulcan Real Estate is the real estate branch of Vulcan, Inc., the company founded by Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist Paul G. Allen.
