Central Washington University is busy preparing the 2017 fall schedule for its new campus in Sammamish.
“We’re really kind of in the nits and grits right now, but with an eye to the future.” said Melanie Palm, CWU executive director of extended learning. “We’re really focused on getting our courses up and started for Running Start.”
The Running Start program allows eligible juniors and seniors to enroll in classes tuition-free at participating institutions of higher education, like Central, earning high school and college credit simultaneously.
Palm said the university plans to offer six different classes — English 101, Math 151, Spanish 151, American Sign Language 151 and a health education and history course. Classes will run once each hour from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
These are all Running Start eligible, but are also open to the public.
“It’ll be a nice mix of general education requirements,” Palm said. “We’re really excited to be able to do this.”
Central Washington University will run these classes out of the former Mars Hill Church building located at 120 228th Ave. SE in Sammamish. The university signed the lease for the two-story, 30,807-square-foot building in March.
Central Washington University will hold an open house for those interested in learning how to apply to the Running Start program on May 30. The free event will be hosted at the Sammamish Library from 6-8 p.m.
The Sammamish Library is located at 825 228th Ave. SE.
