The trial date for one of the men accused of the first murder in incorporated Sammamish history was set last week for Oct. 12.
Christopher J. Shade, 19, of Texas, is being charged with first degree murder for brutally beating a Boeing manager to death with a shovel in the man’s Sammamish home before fleeing to Canada with Kevin D. Patterson, 22, in September 2014. Patterson is also being charged with first degree murder.
Canadian officers arrested the pair in a hotel nearly 12 hours after the body of 57-year-old Sammamish resident Richard Bergesen was found.
Shade was extradited from Canada in December 2014 and booked into the King County Jail.
Patterson, who has duel citizenship, remains in custody in British Columbia.
On May 6, the Canadian court ordered that Patterson be extradited to the U.S., King County Prosecuting Attorney Office spokesperson Dan Donohoe said.
Patterson can appeal the order or pursue other avenues in order to fight extradition, which could delay the process, Donohoe said.
A preliminary hearing for Shade is scheduled for Aug. 14.
The case has yet to be assigned to a judge.
