A fire in the Issaquah Highlands was fought and extinguished by Eastside Fire and Rescue (EFR) on Wednesday evening.
Despite the high temperatures and low humidity, firefighters managed to prevent the fire from spreading into adjacent properties.
EFR responded to a brush fire near Northeast Park Drive and Northeast Katsura Ct. in the Issaquah Highlands at approximately 8:40 p.m.
According to a press released issued by them, there were multiple reports of a growing fire in a greenbelt area with a steep ravine adjacent to several single and multiple family homes.
It was reported to be moving towards the residences.
The initial actions taken were to ensure that no homes were immediately threatened.
Once additional fire crews and equipment arrived at the scene, the fire was directly attacked and eventually extinguished.
EFR’s specialized Wildland Team was called in to assist with the final extinguishment.
The 100 by 35 foot brush fire spread into the heavy brush and trees.
The record temperatures, steep terrain and location of the fire created a challenge for fire crews who had to carry equipment down the steep slope. Fire crews were able to contain the fire and mop-up operations continued for several hours before the job was completed at about 2:00 a.m.
Crews will continue to watch the area due to the deep seated fire to ensure that the fire stays out.
There was a report of one minor firefighter injury, a muscle strain. There was no reported loss of property.
The community is reminded that there is a high fire danger due to record temperatures, and extended periods of no rain.
