An Eastside Fire & Rescue battalion chief and his son will camp out atop a truck in Issaquah in order to raise awareness for underprivileged families during the EF&R’s fifth annual food and clothing drive next week.

Members of the Eastside Firefighters Benevolent Fund will set up the event starting Nov. 27.

Battalion Chief Glenn Huffman and his son will live atop a 24 foot moving truck, which First Due Movers donated, and will be stationed in the Issaquah Fred Meyer parking lot, 6100 E. Lake Sammamish Parkway S.E., through Nov. 29.

Eastside Firefighters and their families will be on site collecting food and clothes for the “Fill the Truck” food and clothing drive.

All donations will support the Issaquah Food & Clothing Bank and the Snoqualmie Valley Food Bank.

Items collected include chili, soups, jelly, healthy snacks, canned veggies or fruit, cooking oil, toiletries, soap, cleaning products, new underwear (all sizes), diapers (sizes 4-6), baby wipe and lightly used blankets and coats.

The Eastside Firefighters Benevolent Fund, established in 2011, aims to provide “relief to needy segments of society suffering from poverty, hunger, homelessness, and like calamity deserving of charity,” according to a press release.
