EDVP auction raises $355,000 for domestic violence programs

Eastside Domestic Violence Program (EDVP) raised more than $355,000 on May 14 at its annual World of Hope Dinner & Auction at Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue. The funds will benefit benefit families in EDVP’s homeless shelters and programs.

Honorary Chairs, Justice Bobbe Bridge, Ret. & Jon Bridge and Judy & Mark Maleng presented Dan Satterberg, King County Prosecuting Attorney and David Martin, Senior Deputy Prosecuting Attorney the 2011 Norm Maleng Honoree Award for their leadership and work to protect domestic violence victims and their children. Emcee Molly Shen, KOMO 4 News hosted the evening.

Survivor speaker Melody – a 14-year-old girl – from EDVP’s Voices Support Group shared her story about the years of abuse she and her mom endured by her father. Melody spent 11 of her 14 birthdays in domestic violence homeless shelters.

A surprise for the evening was a $50,000 pledge for a college scholarship for Melody to help her achieve her dream of attending college.
