A smoke sighting at the Skyline High School gymnasium caused all students and staff to evacuate the building Tuesday afternoon.
At about 1 p.m., staff noticed “a large amount of smoke coming from the ceiling” above the laundry area in the gym, according to a statement by the Issaquah School District.
Eastside Fire and Rescue responded to the scene immediately, and all staff and students reported to the evacuation area. After less than an hour, firefighters gave the all-clear, and students and staff returned to the building.
The crew located fire in a dryer, which spread smoke into the laundry room, Eastside Fire posted on Twitter.

L. Michelle, the district’s executive director of communications, told the Reporter that firefighters brought water hoses into the building but that water was not sprayed.
Michelle stated that the Issaquah School District “drills frequently” for fires and that “everyone knew where to go” during the evacuation.
The Reporter will update this story as more information becomes available.
