A baby girl from Sammamish, Demsie Lynn Heady, was the first baby born at Overlake Hospital in 2013. She is the daughter of Katherine (Katie) and Austin Heady.
Demsie was born at 1:54 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 1 and weighed 8 lbs, 10 oz. She has a big sister, Emerson, 5.
Demsie was born via a scheduled induction set for Tuesday morning and shares a birthday with her grandmother, another New Year’s baby.
“It’s really cool she gets to share her birthday with her grandma,” Katherine Heady said.
Heady said their family and staff rang in the new year wearing party hats and using noise makers. As the first baby born at Overlake this year, Demsie and family were the recipients of a special New Years Baby basket, which included items such as a new breast pump, blankets, baby wipes and clothes.
“Everyone that helped us out was awesome,” Heady said.
Swedish/Issaquah welcomed its first baby of the new year on Jan. 1 at 3:33 a.m. The baby boy, named Adrien, weighed in at 8 lbs. 1 oz. and measured 20.5 inches long. He was born to first-time parents and Issaquah residents Luz Maria and Enrique Mazariegos. The delivering physician was Maria Holmes, M.D., with Issaquah Women’s Clinic.
In celebration of the special occasion, The Shops at Swedish and the Swedish/Issaquah Starbuck’s each donated a newborn gift basket to the Mazariegos family.
