Hundreds flocked to the Sammamish Commons for Independence Day fun, food and fireworks.
While the event officially began with live music at 6 p.m., the fireworks didn’t burst overhead until 10 p.m.
The city displayed an even bigger fireworks show than last year, despite ongoing construction to the Sammamish Community and Aquatic Center. The Sammamish City Council authorized in May $25,000 for the purchase of fireworks.
The fireworks launched just north of the community center’s construction site, which is where the original launch site had been.
Free shuttles ran from the Upper Commons, located off of 228th Avenue Southeast, to the Lower Commons, off of 222nd Place Southeast, to transport people from one part of the property to another due to the trail closure.
