Mountains to Sound Greenway Days kicks off this weekend, offering events and activities around Issaquah, encouraging people to get out around town.
On Sunday, June 21 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. wander through Fenders on Front Street to see over 900 vintage and classic cars, street venders and a swap meet. There will also be live music throughout the day. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. at the Triple-X Drive-in followed by a cruise down Front Street. Front Street will be closed to traffic throughout the day.
On both Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. visit the Issaquah Salmon Hatchery for Fin Day to learn about watershed and the life of a salmon. Docents will give 30 minute tours of the facilities at the 125 W. Sunset Way location.
On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. head to the Issaquah Farmer’s Market for fresh produce, flowers, baked goods and plenty more from local artisans. The Farmer’s Market is held at the Pickering Barn at 1730 10th Ave NW.
Learn about local history with Issaquah History Museum Director Erica Maniez who will lead a walk through the history of Issaquah from the 1880s to the present day on Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. The walk begins at the Issaquah Train Depot and covers 2 miles.
For those looking to get out and enjoy the outdoors during Greenway Days check out one of the many local hiking opportunities.
On Saturday at 9:30 a.m. Issaquah Alps Trails Club hike leader Steve Williams will lead a group on a 6-mile hike on Coal Creek Trail. Meet at the Issaquah Trails Center at 110 SE Bush St. for a shuttle to the trail.
Also on Saturday and Sunday is the Issaquah and Superior Mine Hike. The adventure begins with a presentation by the Issaquah History Museum on the mining history of the area, followed by an easy terrain 2-mile hike lead by Steve Grate. Sunday’s hike will cover 3 miles. Reservations are required, and the event costs $2 per person. Contact 425-392-3500 for more information.
An interpretive hike of Tiger Mountain will be held Sunday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Learn about fairy rings, fungus, invasive species and native plant identification. Hikes will begin every hour, starting at 9 a.m., and participants can gather at the Pavillion at the High Point trailhead for the hour long walk. For more information contact Sally at 206-524-1665.
Also on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. Doug Simpson, with the Issaquah Alps Trails Club, will lead an easy to moderate 5-mile hike in the Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park to see DeLeo Wall and Coal Creek Falls. Participants should wear hiking shoes, bring water, food, a day pack and warm clothing and rain gear. No reservations are required and participates will meet at the Issaquah Trails Center. Also on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. the Issaquah Alps Trails Club will lead a 4-mile hike in Cougar Mountain Regional Wildland Park.
Participants should meet at the Trails Center.
