Issaquah and Sammamish police chiefs, others to discuss Muslim safety

6 local police chiefs will join Muslim leaders Jan. 3.

Six local police chiefs will join Muslim leaders for the second annual Muslim and Immigrant Safety Forum and Dinner from 7-9:30 p.m. on Jan. 3 in the Rainier Room at the Bellevue School District building, 12241 Main St.

Sammamish Police Chief Michelle Bennett will talk about crime prevention and calling 911, while Issaquah Police Chief Scott Berhbaum will discuss personal safety and de-escalation. Kirkland Police Chief Cherie Harris will educate the community about Washington state hate crime laws, and Redmond Police Chief Kristi Wilson will teach how to “run, hide, fight.” Mercer Island Police Chief Ed Holmes will discuss King County immigration policies, followed by a question and answer session with Bellevue Police Chief Steve Mylett.

The event is organized by the Bellevue Police Department and the Muslim Community and Neighborhood Association (MCNA). This is a family friendly event, and childcare will be provided.
