Issaquah gift store raising funds for domestic violence support group

Look's Gifts and Cards will donate 10 percent of all sales made Nov. 13 to Lifewire, formerly the Eastside Domestic Violence Program.

For the 15th year, Look’s Gifts and Cards in Issaquah got the holiday shopping season off to an early start, while raising money for an Eastside charity.

On Nov. 13, 10 percent of all sales made at the gift shop at 1520 NW Gilman Blvd went to support LifeWire, formerly the Eastside Domestic Violence Program, owner Shelley Look said. Prizes supplied by the store were also raffled off, with proceeds going to LifeWire.

“It’s kind of a jump to the Christmas shopping season, and it’s for a good cause,” Look said.

The effort is a descendent of a now-defunct “guild” of women, according to Look, who would meet together to raise funds for domestic violence charities and support groups. Some members of this guild eventually founded “The WAVE Foundation,” which held their annual fundraising women’s bike marathon in early September.

While the amount raised per year varies, Look said, the store averages about $1,500 per year in donations to LifeWire.
