The Issaquah Police Department announced Dec. 7 that information relating to inmates held in the Issaquah City Jail is now available online.
The identities of those custody, arresting agency, charges, bail amounts and scheduled released dates will be updated four times a day for accuracy.
As of Dec. 7, there are 51 men and women detained in the city jail held on charges such as harassment, third-degree theft and violating a restraining order.
In the past, interested members of the public had to call the jail and wait for a corrections officer or other staff member to answer the phone.
The city jail, built in 2000, is a 62 bed facility intended to accommodate misdemeanor offenders. In addition to providing a secure environment for Issaquah inmates, the following cities have contracted to house prisoners in the Issaquah Jail: Bellevue; Clyde Hill; Duvall; Maple Valley; Medina; Mercer Island; North Bend; Redmond; Sammamish; Snoqualmie; Black Diamond; Normandy Park; Bothell; Carnation; Kirkland; Shoreline; Woodinville; Newcastle and Pacific.
Issaquah also contracts with Yakima County Corrections for housing some of Issaquah’s long term/special prisoners, which saves Issaquah tax payers thousands of dollars per year.
In recent budget negotiations, officials identified hiring additional corrections officers as a significant need and plan to fund an additional position at the city jail in 2010.
