The Issaquah Community Network awarded $7,000 in grants to local projects and activities to promote healthy youth and strong families.
The money was spread thinly over nine different applicants.
The top winners were “Athletes for Kids,” with a $1750, which would pay for three trainings of student athletes. The program matches a high school athlete with special needs middle school students.
The group also granted $1,700 for WEB, a program that helps train eighth graders to be mentors for incoming sixth graders.
A unique program at Tiger Mountain High School, called Cooking Connections, would fund a cooking and nutrition program for students.
Money was also given to pay for a Youth Job Skills Fair at the Echo Glenn Correctional Facility for children. The school is a part of the Issaquah School District.
“This year the grant request far exceeded the amount of funding available,” said Judy Brewer, the ICN board chair. “These grantees have demonstrated the worthiness and strength of their proposed projects.
