As Issaquah neared completion of a natural restoration project at Squak Valley North, it discovered a leaky oil tank had contaminated about 56 tons of soil.
So far about 75 percent of the restoration has been paid for through grants, but grant money can’t be used for this cleanup. The city had to decide between paying $26,000 for the cleanup and risking the oil contaminates the ground water. City council passed the expenditure Monday night.
