Issaquah police are investigating after Issaquah Middle School administrators reported unsettling remarks discovered on a student’s Instagram account.

Issaquah police are investigating after Issaquah Middle School administrators reported unsettling remarks discovered on a student’s Instagram account.

On Jan. 2, several students saw menacing comments and images on the Instagram account of an unknown user. There was no threat to the school.

One of the students reported the account to their parents, who then contacted school administrators.

Issaquah police then began to investigate. Detectives are working closely with school administrators during the ongoing investigation.

Issaquah police remind parents to talk to their children about using social media safely.

If your child uses social media, make sure his or her accounts are set to private, so that approval is necessary before users can communicate with your child or view their posted content.

Ask your child to share his or her social media passwords with you.

Follow your child on social media so you can see his or her content.

If your child receives a threat via social media, he or she should not respond or engage the suspect. If your child receives a threat or sees a disturbing post, document the information about the sender with a screenshot and report the incident to police.
