Issaquah School District announces National Merit Scholarship finalists

Twenty-five students from the Issaquah School District have been named finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Students qualify for the National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Of the 1.6 million students who take the exam, about 15,000 are named finalists. Finalists are in the running for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth a total of $33 million.

Finalists from Issaquah High School include Sidney Chan, Aashika Jhawar, Christopher Park, Romil Sirohi, Sophie Wang, Spencer Young and Christopher Yuen.

At Liberty High School, Nicole Leung and Evan McLean achieved finalist status.

Skyline High School’s finalists are Ishaan Bhimani, Alex Camai, David Cao, Jennifer DeJong, Austin Dodd, Benjamin Fornia, Paari Gopal, Kunal Gupta, Christina Nguyen, Ishira Parikh, Gayathri Raj, Kaley Romero, Jared Stever, Clara Too, Eugene Tou and Kevin Zhu.

“Congratulations and good luck to these outstanding students,” stated the district. “We are proud of you.”
