Three Issaquah students could face upward of a year in jail after they were arrested for stealing a purse from a Talus residence while the occupants were home.
The suspects, two 16-year-old males and an 18-year-old male exchange student, were arrested on April 5 in connection with an occupied residential burglary that occurred on March 31 in the Talus subdivision, in the 700 block of Bear Ridge Drive Northwest.
According to Issaquah Police, the homeowners were at home at the time of the burglary when they discovered a purse stolen from their kitchen area, and determined entry had been made through an unlocked door.
Shortly after the burglary, which occurred between 8 and 9 p.m., the victim’s credit card was used at a local fast food restaurant. Tracking the transaction, police then viewed surveillance footage from the downtown restaurant and identified the suspects.
Issaquah Police Sergeant Bob Porter told The Reporter this week that, while none of the youths had a record of criminal conviction, they were known to Issaquah Police.
“These three were definitely showing up on the radar,” he said.
Porter said he believed the exchange student was from France.
He described the actions of three young men as “very bold.”
“It is disturbing any time we see a burglary where they have entered a residence with the reasonable expectation that people are home,” Porter said. “That is a little troubling.”
The three were arrested, booked, and later released at the Issaquah City Jail. The 16 year-olds were scheduled to appear in the King County Juvenile Court, while the 18 year-old will face the King County Superior Court.
Burglary is automatically a felony offense, regardless of the value of the items stolen.
