It was World Toilet Day this week, and the King County Library System is flush with excitement.
The Saturday program is loaded with whimsical activities for families, and a bit of education about the importance of sanitation and clean water.
“Thanks goodness you have good sanitation,” said Deborah Schneider, the KCLS program coordinator. “Children are dying all over the world because they don’t have access to clean water.”
The program will feature local author and children’s performer Charlie Williams, who wrote the book Flush, an Ode to Toilets.
It’s sponsored by WaterAid, an international non-profit advocating for clean water.
Children will have the opportunity to toilet paper their parents and sign their name on a bathroom stall door. Door prizes include decorated toilet seats.
Williams, also known as noiseguy, is known for his ability to make unusual noises. He’s expected to perform multiple times Saturday with poetry, comedy and family events.
A local home improvement store donated toilets to the event. Williams decorated them in various themes including steam punk, disco and a fountain.
The free event is from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Nov. 20, at the KCLS Service Center, 960 Newport Way N.W., Issaquah.
