The president of the Issaquah School Board plans to run for the Legislature this year, following the announcement that Rep. Glenn Anderson won’t seek reelection.
Chad Magendanz has been on the Issaquah board since 2008, where he dealt with a slough of cuts from state lawmakers. The move would put him in a place to have a better say on those cuts.
He started up his campaign with the announcement Thursday with the focus to “jumpstart education and jobs.”
“I see challenges to our cherished way of life in unsustainable government spending, the decline of our schools, the over-regulation of our businesses and everyday erosion of constitutional rights,” he said in a press release.
A father of two students, Magendanz saw the Issaquah School District through $16 million in state cuts. For the past three years the board has won numerous state awards for its work. He served on numerous other citizen and legislative education committees, including the PTA.
A Cornell graduate, he works as a freelance software design consultant for Microsoft, Nike and Panasonic. He once served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear submarine officer.
Married for 22 years, he’s a Tiger Mountain resident, and avid conservationist, outdoorsman and a GOP precinct committee officer.
