Issaquah police arrested a man on suspicion of Domestic Violence Assault in the fourth degree at 7:45 a.m. on Aug. 18, following an altercation in the middle of the night.

The 35-year-old was booked into Issaquah Jail the same morning; according to Issaquah Police Commander Chris Wilson, the suspect has not yet been formally charged.

At about 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 18, police responded to a residence in the 1000 block of Cabin Creek Lane, where a woman reported that her boyfriend had assaulted her. When police arrived, the suspect had left the area and could not be located.

Later that morning around 3:30 a.m., police happened to be in the area for an unrelated case when they noticed that the suspect’s car had returned to the residence. After multiple attempts by police to contact the suspect over the phone and in person, the suspect finally came out of the residence, and was subsequently arrested.

The alleged victim showed no bruises, cuts, or other signs of injury, but as Wilson said, “You don’t have to have a black eye to be assaulted.” He explained that Assault in the fourth degree, which is considered a gross misdemeanor, can include any unwanted touching, such as pushing.

“There wasn’t any injury, but it’s against the law what the person did,” Wilson added.

Wilson said that the police department had never before received reports of squabbles-gone-awry for the couple, such as noise complaints or other assault incidents.

Police believed the incident was resolved between the couple after the suspect returned to the residence, as the victim was sleeping when police arrived the second time.

The case remains under investigation. If charged, the suspect will have to go before a judge, as is practice for domestic violence suspects.
